One Small Bite at a Time
Food can create memories that will last a lifetime, not only in flavor, but also the moments they are created and shared. My dream is to be able to create these moments and memories by the experiences of my "foodie chic" lifestyle through displaying essential ingredients and stages to having success in culinary school, the tastes of local restaurants, and the sharing and creating of recipes. Similar to an amuse bouche to a meal, a dream starts small and slowly grows into extraordinary.

Great Grandma's Marble Cake
My Aunt Jennifer's favorite cake is my late Great Grandma's Marble Cake. I just found this out of her birthday this past Friday and I had the pleasure of being able to bake it with my Grandma. I was surprised with the simplicity of it and it turned out delicious (so I have heard)! So here's a recipe in my Great Grandma's honor and I am sure it will continue to be passed down through generations.
Marble Cake
Ingredients:
2 cups + 2 tbsp all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
3 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
4 large egg whites
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup milk
1 oz semi sweet chocolate melted
1 tsp water
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
Sift together the flour, white sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the shortening, vanilla, and milk and beat vigorously with a spoon for 2 minutes. Add egg whites in (one at a time) and beat until well combine before adding the next.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave or over a double boiler and add the water in to make a silky and shiny consistency.
Pour half of the batter in the greased baking dish and spread evenly.
Add the chocolate to the second half of the batter and mix thoroughly. Add that to the top of the other batter and swirl to make a marbled look.
Bake for 25-30 minutes for until the middle is set and a toothpick comes out clean.
*My other Aunt made a chocolate buttercream for the icing so that is an option or you can even dust it with powdered sugar for a less sweet version.
Enjoy and a very happy birthday to my Aunt Jen!
